I'm looking into setting up a wordpress site for Gamingforce, I've never used it from a admin position, but I have used it as a mod and like what it has. I'm wondering how I can use it as a gaming website.

You can test it out at http://wordpress.com/ by making a free account. WordPress is mostly used for blogging, but you can make pages on it like Joomla.
You can use WordPress to make a gaming blog, or website by posting stories related to gaming, reviews of games you played, and GF news.

how hard is it making pages like joomla? Does it require much skill?

It is not hard, there is a page editor like Joomla, and once you publish your page, the link for the page will show up automatically in your template if your template supports page links in the sidebar or header area.
The page editor is similar to other editors like Joomla post editor, Blogger editor, etc.

You can also move your blog to somewhere else and have a static page as your landing page as we did on our website that is wordpress powered,
joomla does not have the kind of support that WP has plus the plugins are amazing,
check our our site, it will give you a good idea of some of what WP can do,

there are so many, SO MANY themes its amazing, you wouldnt need to invest $$ in any themes, i have built a dozen websites and never bought a theme from WP,
it would be epic to have some of those plugins for the main site,
