Nintendo Teases New Zelda

Check out what Nintendo's Eiji Aonuma, best known for directing and producing multiple Zelda games, just sent 3DS owners via Swapnote, the system's text and picture messaging application.

"Hello, this is Aonuma, Nintendo's Legend of Zelda producer," he says in the note. "Did you enjoy The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D? Thanks to everyone, the Legend of Zelda series had a very happy 25th anniversary. I hope you're looking forward to new Legend of Zelda games."

Nintendo has not yet officially announced any new Legend of Zelda games for 3DS, but it's reasonable to assume that at least one is planned for the near future. Zelda is one of the publisher's strongest franchises, one that has made multiple appearances on every Nintendo system thus far (except the Super Nintendo, where it only landed once, as Kotaku commenter LordDisco points out).
Aonuma has also expressed interest in bringing The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask to 3DS.

To access Aonuma's note for yourself, just open up your 3DS and download the Swapnote app, if you don't have it already. Activate SpotPass and you should receive the letter, which is decorated with adorable little images of The Legend of Zelda's 8-bit sprites.
We've reached out to Nintendo for comment and will update if we hear anything official. For now, we'll just have to settle with a tease.

Big 3DS Game in the works

During Nintendo's Direct broadcast it was announced that three major publishers - Namco Bandai, Capcom and Sega - are teaming up for a new 3DS project.

Details, as you can imagine, are scarce, but a teaser trailer was shown, followed by a website containing images of a vault. Are we going back to the vault to dust-off some cherished but neglected franchises?

At long last Nintendo has confirmed The Last Story will be coming to North America. However unlike in Japan and Europe, Nintendo of America will not be publishing the epic Wii RPG, leaving those duties to XSEED Games.
Today, reader Gavin sent us a tip about this Mega Man mural. Measuring an impressive five feet on every side, this wall art depicting Mega Man 2's level select screen is made entirely of Lego bricks. Click through the gallery to see a close-up shot!

3DS Breaks Sales Record

Nintendo has announced that 3DS has sold 5 million units in Japan quicker than any other console to date, according to Andriasang.

The handheld reached the 5 million mark in just 52 weeks - one year after its release on February 26, 2011. In doing so it breaks the record held by Nintendo DS, which took 56 weeks to reach the same figure.

What makes this even more impressive is that these are actual sales figures, not just the amount of units 'sold' to retailers.

source
no doubt NIntendo is still making money even with the price cut and for those who waited didn't have to spend a arm and a leg to get it.
